"There has been a calulated risk in every stage of American development. Pioneers who were not afraid of the wildernees, business people who were not afraid of failure, and dreamers who were not afraid of action."

--Gil Alkinson

Gilda Marx Industries, Inc. a fitness and fashion conglomerate, was founded in 1987 after operating under the Flexatard Inc. umbrella since 1977

In the United States Gilda Marx activewear was sold in over 5000 independent retailers, the Body Design by Gilda exercise studios, the Gilda Marx retail store in New York City and most major department and sporting goods stores. Internationally Gilda’s products were marketed in 45 countries.

The Gilda Marx Industries’ label names included: Flexatard, California Body, Gilda Marx Sport, Gilda Marx Swimwear, Gilda Marx Hosiery, and Gilda Marx Stars of Tomorrow children’s body-wear.

Gilda Marx introduced and patented Breathables, a new breakthrough in body-wear fashion. Breathables lining is made with Dupont’s CoolMax fiber. Breathables body-wear has superior wicking ability to help perspiration away from the body, keeping it cooler, drier and more comfortable. In addition, the corporation produced and distributed fitness tapes and accessories.

The corporation's home office in Los Angeles, employed over 200 people and had six showroom locations in major U.S. cities: New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles and Charlotte.

Gilda Marx Industries Inc., realigned top management in 1990. Mitchell Guzik has been named President of Gilda Marx Industries, succeeding Robert Marx, Gilda and Robert Marx, who own the company, have moved to new positions of Co-Chairmen, and they continue as Co-Chief Executive Officers.

Guzik has been with the body-wear manufacturer since 1982, most recently as Vice President of Operations. In addition to being President of the parent firm, he will also be President of its Flexatard, Inc., unit a post that had been held by Gilda Marx. Gilda Marx continues as President of two other units, Gilda Marx Inc., and Body Design by Gilda.

In the late nineties the company was sold and Gilda
